Diana Nyad

Diana Nyad, an international record-breaking marathon swimmer, once attempted to swim over 100 miles from Havana, Cuba to Florida in 1978. After being in the water for 41 hours and 49 minutes, Diana fell short of her goal due to strong currents and bad weather. As a journalist, Nyad is heard on National Public Radio and is a columnist for Los Angeles KCRW’s edition of “All Things Considered.” She spent time as a sports television personality for ABC’s Wide World of Sports, FOX Sports, the Outdoor Life Network, and CBS Sunday Morning. Nyad has also written three books: Other Shores, Basic Training for Women, and The Boss of Me.
Now in her 60s, the record-holding swimmer and journalist decided to once again make an attempt to swim from Havana, Cuba to Florida. Her “Xtreme Dream” gained expansive and international media and public relations support, as well as major corporate sponsors, such as Secret and the Shark Shield & Spire Institute.
In 2010, Nyad was eager to expand her communications strategies into the social media arena. Nyad came to ChatterBlast Media (CBM) to help launch her social media campaign and ensure her “Xtreme Dream“ was available on as many new media channels as possible. Working with a national team of key supporters, ChatterBlast developed an overall online strategy, Facebook presence, Twitter account, blog, and editorial content strategy. CBM also developed a strategy to find her supporters (both new and old) online and bring them to her online properties. Using a combination of social monitoring tools, personal engagement tactics, and multi-pronged messaging, CBM help Nyad create an active and vibrant online community.
These efforts contributed to widespread awareness of the “Xtreme Dream” as well as an organic system of communication focused on fans and media outlets who continue to connect and learn about Diana’s journeys. CBM now works continually to manage and amplify Nyad’s Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube accounts, and is proud to keep Nyad connected as she prepares for other superhuman, “Xtreme Dream” efforts.
